Randolph Athletics Celebrates DIII Week
LYNCHBURG, VA – Every year, the first week of April signifies NCAA Division III Week, an initiative celebrated around the largest division in the NCAA. Randolph College athletics is one of those joining in the celebration.
DIII Week was designed to highlight the student-athlete. Obviously, all student-athletes achieve great things in whatever form of competition. Whether it be on the field, on the court, in the ring, in the diamond, or on the track. However, all of them do so much more, and that is why the week was created.
DIII Week focuses on the achievements in the classroom and the community. The WildCats placed over 60 student-athletes on the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) All-Academic team last year, and it was the third-straight year that had happened. In addition, 20% of all athletes have a GPA of over 3.2, showing how well they do in the classroom.
All of the teams and student-athletes participate in many different community service projects. This year, that is the primary focus of the DIII Week. All of the schools in the ODAC are working with their respective Student-Athlete Advisory Committees to collect athletic equipment and gear. Everything that is collected is donated to Leveling the Playing Field, an organization that works with underprivileged children to make sure they can participate in athletics as well.
Right now, the donation box located in the RAD Center is overflowing, with items ranging from volleyballs to old sets of golf clubs.
Please support this initiative and Randolph student-athletes by coming to a home game this week and donating to the box.
