The Randolph College athletic department each week showcases a question and answer feature with our WildCat of the Week. The 17th student-athlete selected this year is men's basketball player Zach Desgain.
Last week, Zach scored a career-high in the game against Lynchburg College, as he finished with a team-high 23 points. He followed that up with 10 points, eight assists, and five rebounds against Virginia Wesleyan. For the week, he averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 assists, and five rebounds in the two games. However, his biggest accomplishment came the week before as he broke the program record for assists in a career. He currently has 283 in his career.
What have you gained from being a part of this great program?
The most immediate thing I have gained from this program is the lifelong friendships with teammates and coaches. This program prides itself on togetherness and being a family and that is something special that I will carry with me through life.
What is your favorite thing about Randolph College?
My favorite thing about Randolph College is the size of the school. With it being such a small school, I am able to form a lot of personal relationships with classmates and professors.
How has being a student-athlete affected you?
It has definitely been tough being a student-athlete at the Divison III level. It has tested my time management skills as well as teaching me to be disciplined. I wouldn't trade it for anything though.
What is your favorite thing about Randolph College men's basketball?
My favorite thing about the team is definitely the guys on the team. We have such great relationships that will definitely go beyond college; I would do anything for any of them. They're my second family and I love them to death.
