ELON. N.C.- For the first time this season, the Randolph men's basketball hit the hardwood for an exhibition game with Elon Univeristy of Division I. The Phoenix won 98-45.
Brian Smith (Dumfries, Va./C.D. Hylton) and Evan Makle (Dumfries, Va./Christ Chapel Academy) both had eight points each to lead the WildCats. CJ Loving (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) added seven points. Justin Dula (Taylorsville, N.C./Alexander Central) and Chip Pinner (Waxhaw, N.C./Weddington) both pulled down five rebounds.
Elon scored the game's first two baskets to go ahead 4-0 before Zach Hinton (Mansasas, Va./Stonewall Jackson HS) converted a layup with 16:38 remaining in the first half. The Phoenix upped their lead to 15-4 at 14:25.
Randolph was able to knock its deficit down to single digits at three points with the final time happening with 12:36 showing on the clock after a three-point basket by Makle. Elon would go on to lead 45-24 at halftime.
Randolph will play one more exhibition game. The WildCats travel to Longwood University next Tuesday. Tip off will be at 7:00 p.m.
