FARMVILLE, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team played its second and final exhibition game as it gets ready for the start of the 2018-19 season as the WildCats went just an hour east to take on Division I Longwood University. The Pacers would win by the score of 84-56.
It was more than three minutes into the first half when the first basket was scored by Longwood at 16:41 on a three-point shot by JaShaun Smith. The Pacers jumped on the WildCats as they got out to a 13-0 lead. Randolph got its first bucket at 13:12 on a layup by Elijah Ford (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly).
Dula's layup with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half got the 'Cats to within 11 points at 21-10. The Pacers would pull away and up their advantage as they led 48-16 at the break.
Randolph was 0-for-10 from beyond the three-point arc in the first period but turned it around in the second half as it was 8-for-15 (53.3%). Overall, the WildCats outshot the Pacers 32%-27.8% in three-point shots. The 'Cats recovered from a 25.8% overall shooting percentage in the first half to convert 43.3% from the field in the second.
Sammy Hooper (Richmond, Va./Midlothian) notched a double-double performance as he led the WildCats with 18 points and 12 rebounds. He also had three assists. CJ Loving (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) added 10 points and four rebounds. Drew Hayden (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) put up eight points in 11 minutes of game time.
Randolph officially opens its season this coming Saturday as it hosts St. Mary's of Maryland. Tip off will be at 2:00 p.m.
