LYNCHBURG, Va.- Visiting Randolph-Macon led from start to finish as the #7 Yellowjackets defeated Randolph 87-45 on Saturday afternoon at the RAD Center. RMC improves to 22-2 overall and 14-1 in the ODAC while the WildCats drop to 10-13 and 5-9 in the conference.
Randolph-Macon had a double-digit lead almost five and a half minutes into the first half as it led 12-2. That lead soon grew to 16-2 less than a minute later. The WildCats put together a small 7-0 run to get to within seven points at 16-9. Randolph trailed 21-13 with 11:01 to go on the game clock as it looked to make its way back into the contest.
The WildCats got as close as 27-17 with 8:29 remaining until halftime but RMC used a 13-7 run to end the frame ahead 40-24. The Yellowjackets controlled the second half as they outscored the WildCats 47-21.
Sammy Hooper (Richmond, Va./Midlothian) and Drew Hayden (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) both scored 11 points for the WildCats. The Yellowjackets' Buzz Anthony led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting.
The WildCats host Washington and Lee this coming Wednesday. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m. and the team will honor its three graduating seniors prior to tipoff.
