BUENA VISTA, VA – The Randolph College men's lacrosse team scored 10 first-quarter goals and never looked back in earning a big 22-5 victory over hosting Southern Virginia University in the non-conference season opener for both teams.
Randolph (1-0)was led by junior attack Bobby Crosby (Bethel, CT/Bethel), who finished with a game-high five goals as well as two helpers. First-year attack Andrew Gleitz (Plymouth, IN/Culver Military) chalked up four goals and an assist, while fellow newcomer Andrew Risse (Annandale, VA/Blue Ridge Prep) added three goals and three assists.
Junior middie Colton Wood (Chula Vista, CA/Otay Ranch) picked up right where he left off last season with three goals, and senior Jon O'Hara (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) had two goals and two assists. Senior Stephen Allman (Roanoke, VA/Roanoke Catholic) chalked up two goals, first-year Corey Nehlig (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Twp.) added a goal and three assists, while John Grundy (Gainesville, VA/Battlefield) and Devin Sigmon (Winston-Salem, NC/Glenn) each netted a goal.
First-year goalie Cam Davis (Gibsonville, NC/Western Almanance) had eight stops in his first collegiate game. The WildCats outshot Southern Virginia 65-15 on the afternoon, and also won 16 of the game's 21 face-offs taken. Josh Neilson and Ryan Larson netted two goals apiece for the Knights (0-1).
Randolph will now turn its attention to Wednesday's non-conference tussle with Ferrum College at 3:30 p.m. in Ferrum, VA.
