WildCat Men’s Soccer to Battle Texas-Tyler Friday at Redlands in NCAA Sectionals
LYNCHBURG, VA – The road ahead in the NCAA Tournament for the Randolph College men's soccer team will take them through Redlands, California as the University of Redlands will play host to the NCAA Sectionals this Friday and Saturday evenings.
Randolph College (18-5) will take on the University of Texas at Tyler at 8 p.m. EST and 5 p.m. local time at Farquhar Fields on the campus of Redlands. The No. 24-ranked Patriots (17-2-2) earned the American Southwest Conference automatic bid last week, and advanced to this point with wins over Oglethorpe (3-0) and No. 7 Trinity (TX) (2-0).
The WildCats find themselves in this spot after a huge 2-1 upset win over previously unbeaten and No. 2-ranked Christopher Newport University Saturday and a 3-2 victory over DeSales University in the second round Sunday. Randolph earned the bid into the NCAA Tournament with a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Lynchburg College in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) final, earning the league's automatic qualifier.
Friday night's other evening match will feature the host Bulldogs of Redlands (20-3-1) taking on the Knights of Calvin College (MI), both teams of which received an at-large bid. Redlands knocked off Pacific Lutheran and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Calvin (17-5-1) defeated Carthage and Loras in the first two rounds to book its trip to the Sweet 16.
The three other teams in the sectional have a combined 23 years of NCAA Tournament experience coming in, while the WildCats are still in the midst of their first ever soiree into the NCAA dance.
