ASHLAND, Va.- Visiting Randolph had a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal but Randolph-Macon scored twice and held up with a 2-0 win on Saturday afternoon. The Yellowjackets improve to 8-1 overall and 1-1 in the ODAC while the WildCats fall to 6-4 and 1-1 in the conference.
R-MC attacked early in the first half but the Randolph defense held firm. The Yelowjackets struck in the 25th minute when Anthony Astruc's free kick bent towards the goal and past 'Cat keeper Austin Collier (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) and in for the 1-0 lead.
In the second half, a Frankie DiOrio (Bristow, Va./Patriot) shot in the 56th minute and a Nate Juth (Leesburg, Va./Loudon County) header were both stopped by Yellowjacket goalie Brian Breslin. Randolph-Macon made it 2-0 at 62:22 as Jacob McHugh's cross was taken down by Andrew Griggs, who slotted it past Collier for the score.
Randolph was held to just two shots for the remainder of the game. Randolph-Macon led in overall shots 12-8.
Collier finished with one save. Breslin turned away six WildCat attempts.
The WildCats return home to face current #5 Washington and Lee on Wednesday night. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
