Men’s Swimming Places Fourth at W&L Invite

LEXINGTON, Va.- The Randolph men's swimming team competed in the W&L Invite on Sunday afternoon. The WildCats placed fourth out of six teams with 345 points.

Chris Verastek (Menchville, Va./Newport News) had three top five results for the WildCats. He came in second in both the 200 IM (1:57.66) and the 100 breast (59.53) and added a third place result in the 200 breast (2:15.35). His time in the 200 IM is the second fastest in the ODAC so far this year and his 100 breast time is third fastest.

Andrew Scales (Tega Cay, S.C./Fort Mill) was second in the 400 IM (4:45.31) and sixth in the 200 fly (2:16.95). Daniel Bennett-Blake (College Park, Ga.) came in fourth in the 50 free (21.96).  

Other top ten finishes included Oscar Onozsko (Clover, S.C./Clover HS) in the 100 breast who was sixth (1:02.71) and Josh Bulavko (Edgewood, Md./Edgewood) who was eighth in the 1650 free (19:46.05).

The relay teams also fared well. The 200 free relay team of Michael Christou (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield), Bennett-Blake, Jeffrey Oliveri (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial), and Verastek swam to a second place finish in a time of 1:26.80 to top their previous best time from the Greensboro Invitational two weeks ago. The same quartet was also second in the 200 medley relay with a final time of 1:37.84 and fifth in the 400 free relay in 3:22.46. The 800 free relay team of Bulavko, Bennett-Blake, Bauer Edwards (Roanoke, Va./William Fleming), and Scales were seventh in a time of 8:13.40.

The WildCats return to action on January 12 when they go to Randolph-Macon. Meet time is at 1:00 p.m.
