LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team hosted the WildCat Invite on Saturday. Teams from Roanoke, Lynchburg, and Bridgewater participated.
Bradley Strober (Stockton, NJ/Hunterdon Central) was the champion in the first flight of singles competition. He knocked off Jose Alvaredo from Roanoke 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals and needed a super tie-breaker to defeat Zach Shane from Lynchburg 3-6, 6-2, 10-7 in the championship.
In the second flight, Daniel Crutcher went to a super tie-breaker with the Roanoke's Billy Goins in the consolation match. Crutcher won by the score of 6-0, 2-6, 10-7.
Joe Kaneda (Media, Pa./Penncrest) won the consolation in the fourth flight. He was a 6-1, 6-2 over Matt Friedlander of the Maroons.
In doubles play, Strober and Edgar Ellis won by default in the consolation of the first flight. Kaneda and Crutcher also were winners by default in the consolation of the second flight.
The next competition for the men will be at the ITA Regional at Mary Washington. Competition begins at 8:00 on September 30 and October 1.
