DANVILLE, Va. – The Randolph College men's tennis team closed out its fall season with an 8-1 loss to host Averett University on Sunday afternoon.
Brandon Braud (Moseley, Va./Cosby) and Karson Healy (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) had the lone win for the WildCats as the pair teamed up to win No. 2 doubles, 8-3, while the duo of Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Max Presley (Manakin Sabot, Va./Goochland) fell in No. 1 doubles, 8-3.
Randolph fought hard in singles play but would end up falling in all five matches. Kulvivat pushed his game at No. 1 to three sets but ultimately fell, 3-6, 6-1, 1-6. Braud dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision in the No. 2 spot while Healy fell at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 7-5. Presley would also push his match to a third set before falling to his opponent, 5-7, 6-4, 1-10 in No. 4 singles while Jose Merhej (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision in the No. 5 spot.
The WildCats forfeited one doubles match and one singles match due to only having five players.
Randolph will return for its spring season on Saturday, Feb. 23 when it travels to Pfeiffer University.
