HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Randolph College men's tennis team fell twice in its first day of its spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. The WildCats dropped an 8-1 decision to Wilkes University before falling to Ohio Northern University, 9-0 on Sunday.
Match 1: Wilkes 8, Randolph 1
Randolph won one of six singles matches as Wilkes University delivered an 8-1 loss to the WildCats.
Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) won the lone singles match for Randolph, defeating his opponent 7-6, 2-6, 10-4. Karson Healy (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) dropped the No. 2 match, 6-4, 6-0 while Brandon Braud (Moseley, Va./Cosby) managed to push his No. 3 match to a tie breaker but ultimately fell, 3-6, 6-3, 8-10. Andrew Webb was defeated, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot while Jose Merhej (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) fell, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and John Coffron (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision in the No. 6 spot.
In doubles action, Braud and Healy teamed up in the No. 1 spot, falling to their opponents, 8-4, with Kulvivat and Merhej also dropping an 8-4 decision in the No. 2 match. Wilkes completed the sweep as the tandem of Coffron and Webb fell, 8-0, in the No. 3 spot.
Match 2: Ohio Northern 9, Randolph 0
Ohio Northern swept doubles play for a 3-0 lead as Braud and Healy fell 8-0 to their opponents in No. 1 doubles while Kulvivat and Merhej dropped an 8-2 decision in the No. 2 spot. Coffron and Emad Davis teamed up for the No. 3 match where the pair fell, 8-0.
In singles play, Kulvivat fell at No. 1, 6-2, 6-3 while Healy dropped the No. 2 match, 6-1, 6-0. Braud, Webb, Merhej and Coffron filled out the No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively, with each of them falling in their match, 6-0, 6-0.
The WildCats fall to 0-7 and are back tomorrow to close out their spring break trip against Moravian at 2:30 p.m.
