LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College men's tennis team fell in a tightly contested 5-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match to Shenandoah University on Friday afternoon at the Crosswhite Athletic Club.
The WildCats clinched two of the three doubles matches. The duo of Brandon Braud (Moseley, Va./Cosby) and Karson Healy (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) earned an 8-7 victory at No. 1 while the tandem of Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Andrew Webb grabbed an 8-5 win at No. 2.
Shenandoah took the win at No. 3 doubles before clinching four singles matches to secure the 5-4 victory. Kulvivat dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision at the No. 1 spot while Healy fell, 6-4, 6-7 (7-5), 13-15, in a hard fought No. 2 match. Braud cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 3 spot with Webb dropping a tough 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) decision at No. 4. Jose Merhej (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) earned Randolph its fourth win of the match with a score of 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5, but the Hornets claimed the win as John Coffron (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) fell, 7-5, 6-7 (8-6), 5-10, in a hard fought No. 6 match.
The WildCats finish the season 0-17 overall and 0-11 in the ODAC.
