Each week, the Randolph College athletics department showcases a question and answer with our WildCat of the Week. This week is a junior from the men's track and field team DJ Petty.
Petty ran in the 60m dash and 60m hurdles at the Vince Brown Invitational this past Sunday. He posted prelim times of 7.11 and 7.14 seconds in the 60m dash. He came up just .04 seconds short of the Randolph record time in the 60m hurdles at 8.34 seconds, good for third overall, tops in the ODAC, and 22nd in Division III.
What attracted you to Randolph?
I was attracted to Randolph because of its small classes and close-knit community. A few older friends from high school came here and when I was looking at colleges, they told me about Randolph and I looked more into the school and I love it here.
What are your goals for this season? Winning ODACs? Go to NCAAs?
First and foremost, my main goal is to stay healthy for the rest of the season. My other goals for the season are to win ODACs in the 60 Meter Hurdles & to place in the Top three in the 60 Meter Sprint as well, and my last goal for the season is to go to NCAAs too.
What is your motivation to compete?
My mom is the driving force that made me the competitor I am. She always taught me to work hard and give everything I have no matter what I do. Coach Cooper and our other coaching staff along with my teammates also help me push myself to my limits and help me become a better athlete and individual off the track.
