LYNCHBURG, Va. – Mitchell Doss (Hurt, Va./Gretna) and DJ Petty (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) both set school records in their respective events as the Randolph College men's track and field team hosted its annual WildCat Invitational on Saturday.
Doss earned a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 36.50m, defeating his previous best throw of 36.21m, which he set at the Elon Phoenix Invite last weekend. Doss also turned in a mark of 12.95m in the shot put, finishing fifth, and threw a distance of 33.18m in the discus to place seventh.
Petty clinched second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.72 seconds, slashing his previous record of 10.79 seconds set at the conference meet last year. Petty also added a first-place finish in the 110 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.69 seconds.
Devon Davis (Galax, Va./Galax) recorded the top mark for Randolph in the javelin, turning in a throw of 40.39m to place fifth. Philemon Afrifa-Boakye (Accra, Ghana/Mfanisipim) earned second place in the triple jump with a mark of 13.03m before placing third in the high jump, with a height of 1.81m, and sixth in the long jump with a length of 6.28m.
Karim Frazier (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) cleared a height of 3.98m in the pole vault before turning in a time of 22.65 seconds in the 200 meter dash to place fifth overall.
In the long and mid-distance events, Mason Dye (Rosedale, Va./Honaker) posted a time of 17:07.74 in the 5,000 meter run while Caleb Schmitzer (Wilson, N.C./Fike) locked down a time of 4:35.76 in the 1500 meter race. Brayden Epperly (Bedford, Va./Staunton River) delivered the best 800 meter time for the WildCats, crossing the line in 2:10.38.
Randolph will host the 2019 Outdoor Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship next weekend. Competition will take place Friday-Saturday, April 19-20 at WildCat Stadium.
