Donating to the Riding Center

Donating to the Riding Center

The Randolph College Riding Program has seen great success both in teaching students and in intercollegiate competitions.  Much of that success comes from the many gracious donations that assist our program.  All of these gifts, whether it be a horse, or a trailer, or a tractor, greatly help our program succeed.  For individuals wanting to donate, the following steps are required:

Donation of a Horse

1. The donor must contact the Director of Riding to determine if the horse is appropriate for the program.  Submission of a video may be required.  Once agreement has been reached to receive the horse for a trial period, submit a completed Trial Period Contract: (Trial Period Contract in Fillable PDF) to the Director of Riding.
2. If, at the end of the trial period, it is determined the horse is acceptable, the Director of Riding must receive the following from the donor:

            * A completed Deed of Gift form, signed by donor. (fillable PDF).  Once all College signatures are obtained on the Deed of Gift, the Director of Riding will return a copy of the completed Deed of Gift to the donor.

            * An independent, expert appraisal if less than $5,000 (Fillable PDF) or a qualified appraisal if over $5,000 (PDF explaining qualified appraisal).

3. The Director of Riding will ensure all completed paperwork is submitted to the Office of Institutional Advancement for recording of the gift (date Deed of Gift is signed will be used).  An acknowledgement of the gift will be sent to the donor by the Office of Institutional Advancement.
4. The Donor may submit a signed, IRS Form 8283 to the College Business Office for any horse valued over $5,000 for tax deduction purposes.
