Softball to begin Stretch Run at Home

LYNCHBURG, VA – With the calendar turning to April, spring sports know that conference tournaments are right around the corner.  The Randolph College softball team is one of those teams that will be preparing for the final games, while trying to solidify a position in the tournament.  With that being said, the WildCats will begin that final stretch with two doubleheaders at home this week.

The 'Cats (17-13 overall, 4-8 ODAC) start the week on Tuesday, with their last nonconference twin bill of the season.  Mary Baldwin University (7-23) will make the trip down, in what is a rescheduled contest from March.  The two teams have seen several common opponents on the year, including Wilson College.  The Fighting Squirrels split the DH, featuring a mercy-rule win in game one.  The WildCats had outstanding pitched against the Phoenix, winning both without giving up a run.  Randolph will look to continue that trend, which was also in effect this past Sunday, in the doubleheader on Tuesday.  Game one begins at 3 p.m.

On Wednesday, the team returns to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play, welcoming Sweet Briar College (0-18, 0-10).  Last year, the Vixens did not play other teams from the ODAC in softball, so this will be the first time these two teams have met in two years.  It will also be the first of four conference doubleheaders that Randolph has left.  All of them will take place in the Hill City, making travel easy for the WildCats during the last few weeks of the year.  The first game on Wednesday begins at 3 p.m.
