Softball Closes Out Regular Season on Friday
LYNCHBURG, VA – After getting some time off from its last doubleheader, the Randolph College softball team will take to the field on Friday for its final twin bill of the season. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday, but were moved to Friday due to weather.
The 'Cats (22-16 overall, 7-11 ODAC) close out play against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe, Shenandoah University (11-27, 5-13). The games provide great importance for next week's ODAC tournament. If the WildCats win one or both, they will seal the eighth-seed and an opening-round game with Virginia Wesleyan College. If the Hornets can take both, they will earn the last berth in the tournament. Game one begins at 1 p.m.
Despite what is important on the field, both teams will be doing something important outside the competition. This year, the Randolph Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has partnered with Go 4 The Goal to raise awareness and funds for the fight against pediatric cancer. Every athletic team has worn yellow shoelaces at a home contest, with $4 of every purchased pair of laces going to families battling the disease. This is that game for the WildCats. However, when the Hornets heard about the initiative, they offered to participate as well. This just shows that despite the fierce competition between teams, so much more matters off the field.
