Randolph Softball Picked Eighth in ODAC Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. - On Thursday, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2018 Softball Preseason Poll. Randolph was slotted in eighth place with 22 points.

Defending conference and NCAA champion Virginia Wesleyan was tabbed to repeat with nine first place votes and 81 points. Randolph-Macon was picked second with 66 points and one first place vote. The rest of the poll can be viewed below.

The WildCats were 24-18 overall and 9-11 last year in head coach Sara Flinn's first season. The 'Cats qualified for the ODAC Tournament as the eighth seed. Randolph returns a strong nucleus which includes ODAC Third Teamers Lindsey Chaney (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) and Becca Montgomery (Lancaster, S.C./Laney). Chaney led the team in wins (9), ERA (2.70), IP (116.2), and strikeouts (92). Montgomery batted in 25 runs and was solid defensively as she threw out an ODAC-high eight runners and committed only one error. Also back are Kate Hodgekiss (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) who led in runs scored (45), hits (58), and stolen bases (17), and Lauren Morris (Troy, N.C./West Montgomery) who batted .439 and hit four homers.

Randolph begins its 2018 campaign at Ferrum on February 17. ODAC play starts March 21 as the WildCats welcome city rival Lynchburg.
