RALEIGH, NC- Randolph softball wrapped up its two-day trip to North Carolina with two games on Sunday. The WildCats fell in both games with scores of 4-3 to Mississippi University for Women and 4-0 to Salem. The losses drop the 'Cats overall record to 1-5.

Against Mississippi U, the Owls got on board in the first inning. Randolph starting pitcher Abbi Pannill (Prince George, Va./Prince George) got in a jam with the bases loaded and two outs. She hit a batter to score a run and Mississippi U had the early lead.

The WildCats responded in their portion of the third inning. With runners on second and third with one out, Lauren Morris (Troy, N.C./West Montgomery) singled to the shortstop to score Kate Hodgkiss (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) and even the game at 1-1. Dianne Davis (Zuni, Va./Isle of Wright) reached on a fielder's choice that got Brandi Pruitt (Vernon Hill, Va./Chatham), who was pinch running for Morris, out at second base. Brittany Campbell (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) hit a ball to the Owls shortstop, who could not get a handle on the ball, and Courtney Lucado (Buchanan, Va./James River) was able to score to put the 'Cats ahead 2-1.

The Randolph lead was short-lived as Mississippi U plated three runs in the bottom of the third to lead 4-2. The WildCats got one run back in the fifth on a Campbell RBI single. That was all for the 'Cats as Randolph went down 1-2-3 in the sixth and seventh innings.

Pannill pitched three innings and gave up three hits, four runs (two earned), and eight walks. She struck out four. Camber Thornhill (Pearisburg, Va./Giles) came in relief for the last three innings and just surrendered two hits and one walk.

In the Salem game, Lindsey Chaney (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) went the distance for the WildCats in the circle. Chaney struck out seven Spirit batters and walked just one. Of the nine hits given up, only one went for extra bases. Her only blemish was four unearned runs given up in the third inning.

Randolph registered five hits in the game. Hodgkiss, Lucado, Jordyn Knapp (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton), Campbell, and Pruitt all had singles.

The WildCats host their first doubleheader of the 2018 season this Wednesday when they welcome Greensboro. The first game begins at 2:00 p.m. with the second starting around 4:00 p.m.
