BRIDGEWATER, Va.- The Randolph softball team ended the weekend with a sweep but this time it was in the 'Cats favor. After dropping a twin bill to Eastern Mennonite on Friday at home, Randolph traveled to Bridgewater on Sunday to play the Eagles. The WildCats won with scores of 5-2 and 5-3.

The victories up Randolph's overall record to 12-14 and 5-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Bridgewater drops to 13-13 and 1-4 in the conference.

In the first game, the WildCats got on the board on a Lauren Morris (Troy, N.C./West Montgomery) sacrifice fly in the first inning that scored Brandi Pruitt (Vernon Hill, Va./Chatham). Randolph plated two more runs in the second inning on a Courtney Lucado (Buchanan, Va./James River) two-RBI single to stake the 'Cats to a 3-0 lead.

Another two runs came across home plate in the fourth inning as Jordyn Knapp (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton) scored on an error and Tiffany Allen (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) came home on a wild pitch.  The Eagles got a solo homerun off WildCats starter Lindsey Chaney (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) in the bottom of the fourth and a run in the sixth to make it 5-2. Bridgewater had runners at first and second with two outs in the bottom of the seventh with the tying run at the plate but Chaney was able to induce a groundout to end the game.

Chaney went seven innings and gave up two runs on eight hits. She did not allow a walk and tied her season-high with 10 strikeouts.

Knapp was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. Allen also scored two runs.

Randolph jumped on the Eagles early in the second game as Becca Montgomery (Lancaster, S.C./Laney) smacked a three-run homer to lift the WildCats to a 3-0 lead. Bridgewater scored once in the second and twice in the third to knot the contest at 3-3.

The WildCats were able to break the tie in the fourth inning. Lucado's single to center scored Allen. Kate Hodgkiss (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) moved to third on an Allen single and scored on a throwing error by the Eagle second baseman.

Starting pitcher Abbi Pannill (Prince George, Va./Prince George) went two innings and surrendered one run on two hits. She walked two and struck out three. Camber Thornhill (Pearisburg, Va./Giles) pitched one inning giving up two unearned runs on three hits. The win went to Gracyn Allen-Ingle (Mebane, N.C./Eastern Alamance) as she held the Eagles to just one hit over the last four innings. She struck out two.

Lucado finished 2-for-4 with a double, one run scored, and one run batted in. Montgomery was 2-for-3 with a homerun, one run scored, and three runs batted in.

Randolph begins a key homestand starting this Tuesday as it hosts Roanoke. The ODAC doubleheader begins at 3:00 p.m.
