Softball Shuts Out Southern Virginia in Doubleheader Sweep

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph softball team hosted Southern Virginia for its first home doubleheader of the season on Wednesday afternoon. The WildCats shutout the Knights in both games 3-0 and 7-0. The win improve the 'Cats record to 4-1 and is their best start through five games since 2012.

Lindsey Chaney (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant School) pitched all seven innings for WildCats in the first game. She limited the Knights to four hits and struck out 11 batters.

The WildCats scored once in the second, third, and fifth innings. Madison Brown (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) was 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Alyssa Swords (Disputanta, Va./Prince George) was 2-for-3. Delany Nuckols (Rockville, Va./Patrick Henry) batted in two runs.

In the second game, Abbi Pannil (Prince George, Va./Prince George) started in the circle and held Southern Virginia to two hits. She struck out seven Knight batters.

Randolph plated three runs in the third inning to lead 3-0. In the fifth, Courtney Lucado (Buchanan, Va./James River) had an RBI double, Danielle Shannon (Greenville, Va./Riverheads) singled home Lucado, and Nadia Tibbs (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) hit her first career home run with a two-run shot to center field.

Nuckols was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Shannon and Tibbs both had two runs batted in.

The WildCats next head to Florida for three days of games in Plant City. Randolph will play Heidelberg and Simmons on Sunday afternoon.
