TITUSVILLE, Fla.- The Randolph softball team began its six-game Florida trip on Sunday as the WildCats played Heidelberg and Simmons. The 'Cats defeated the Student Princes 6-3 and fell to the Sharks 12-3 in five innings.

Against Heidelberg, the Student Princes took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. The WildCats responded with a three-run bottom of the second to take a 3-1 advantage.

Randolph went up 4-1 in the fourth on a Taylor Craft (Altavista, Va./Altavista) RBI single. The lead grew in the fifth as the WildCats plated two runs to go up 6-1.

Heidelberg scored twice in the top of the seventh as it looked to get back into the game. The rally fell short as Randolph starting pitcher Lindsey Chaney (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) induced a game-ending groundout.

Chaney pitched all seven innings for the WildCats. She scattered five hits and walked just one batter while striking out eight.

Nadia Tibbs (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and one run batted in. Hailey Thomas (Montpelier, Va./Patrick Henry) was also 2-for-3 with a run batted in. Craft batted 2-for-2 with two runs batted in.

In the second game against the Sharks, Simmons scored 10 runs in the first inning to lead 10-0. Randolph scored once in the second inning.

In the third, Tibbs doubled home a run and Thomas had a sacrifice fly to score Tibbs and make the score 10-3. Simmons pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead 12-3. The WildCats had runners on second and third with two outs in the top of the fifth and hoped to extend the game further but Thomas grounded out to end the game.

While starting pitcher Abbi Pannill (Prince George, Va./Prince George) could not get out of the first inning, Danielle Shannon (Greenville, Va./Riverheads) came in and went four innings. She gave up two runs on five hits. She walked three and struck out four.

Randolph will play Ohio Northern and Aurora tomorrow afternoon. Game times will be at 12:15 and 4:45 p.m.
