Lindsey Chaney struck out seven batters and picked up her seventh victory of the season

LYNCHBURG, Va.- Starting pitcher Lindsey Chaney (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant School) pitched her third shutout of the season as the Randolph softball team defeated Bridgewater 8-0 in their first game on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Chaney improves to 7-0 on the season and is the first WildCat pitcher to do so since Kristen Hutchinson in 2013.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Wildcats erupted for five runs. Madison Brown (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) and Nadia Tibbs (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) both had RBI singles. Three runs came home on errors.

The WildCats plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Chaney ran into some trouble in the top of the fifth as the Eagles got two runners on with one out. With two outs, she hit an Eagle batter to load the bases. In the end, she got out of the jam when she got the strikeout to end the game.

Chaney gave up just two hits and walked one. She struck out seven batters.

Rachel Lee (Clifton, Va./Centreville) was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Delaney Nuckols (Rockville, Va./Patrick Henry) scored twice and stole a base. Alyssa Swords (Disputanta, Va./Prince George) batted 2-for-2 with a run scored and a run batted in.

In the second game, Bridgewater took the lead with a run in the first inning. Randolph countered as Hailey Thomas' (Montpelier, Va./Patrick Henry) sacrifice fly scored a run to tie the game at 1-1.

The Eagles went ahead for good in the fifth inning on a Katrina Martin homerun to lift Bridgewater to a 3-1 lead. Bridgewater scored one more time in the inning and twice in the sixth.

Abbi Pannill (Prince George, Va./Prince George) pitched 4.2 innings for the WildCats. She surrendered four runs on six hits, walked five and struck out five. Danielle Shannon (Greenville, Va./Riverheads) got one out and gave up a hit and a walk. Chaney pitched the final two innings and surrendered one earned run on two hits.

The WildCats totaled four hits against Bridgewater pitcher Brooke Louden. Briana Harbison (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) had two of Randolph's hits.

Randolph hosts Salem in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday. Game times will be at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
