Third Quarter Surge Not Enough as WildCats Fall at Hollins, 65-52

ROANOKE, Va. – Despite a 17-5 run in the third quarter to trim the deficit to 33-19, the Randolph College women's basketball team ultimately fell to host and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Hollins University on Monday evening.

Hollins put up a comfortable 19-8 lead over the WildCats at the conclusion of the opening quarter, but Randolph fought hard to close the gap in the second period, roping the score to 33-19 at intermission.

The third period saw the game lean in favor of Randolph as the WildCats outscored Hollins, 17-5, to trim the deficit to a 38-36 margin. However, Hollins bounced back in the final period with a 27-16 push to capture the 65-52 win as time expired on the clock.

Mikayla Sink (Lexington, N.C./Central Davidson) led the team with 17 points while Dominique Jackson (Greensboro, N.C./Ben L. Smith) added 13 points and five steals. Yanessa Cabrera (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) also recorded double figure points, posting 10, to go along with four assists and five steals while teammate Kalyn Banks (Clinton, Md./From the Heart Christian School) pulled down a team-high eight boards.

Randolph falls to 4-15, 2-10 ODAC and is back on the court on Wednesday, Jan. 30 when it travels to Washington and Lee University for a 7 p.m. ODAC game.
