WildCat Women's Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Bout With Ferrum Tuesday

FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College middie Brooke Hewartson scored seven goals as the Panthers knocked off the Randolph College women's lacrosse team 11-3 in non-conference action from Penn-Roedinger Field Tuesday evening.

Ferrum (7-3) scored the first two goals of the contest, as Brooke Hewartson scored unassisted before Sydney Hewartson netted a goal of her own to make the score 2-0 after 10 minutes. Randolph got on the board at 10:36 of the first half as Jess Andersen (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) scored with help from Taylor Klevenz (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill).

Brooke Hewartson scored for the Panthers after the Andersen goal, but Melanie Eisele (Kennett Square, Pa./Sanford School) took a pass from Ashley Edwards (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) to make the score 3-2. FC got two goals from Brooke Hewartson right before the half to put Ferrum up 5-2 at the break.

After the intermission, the Panthers scored the first four goals of the second half to take a 9-2 lead. Brooke Hewartson scored three more times in the second half to help the Panthers pull away. Danielle Haney (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) scored once for the WildCats, and senior Ashley Stevens (Leicester, Mass./St. Peter-Marian) had five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Andersen finished with with four ground balls and two draw controls, while Fran Klostermyer (Princeton, N.J./Montgomery) had two ground balls and two draw controls. First-year keeper Sara Woodward (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Friends) made six saves in her first collegiate start.

Ferrum outshot the WildCats 29-18 on the evening, and forced 29 giveaways by Randolph. Both teams finished with eight draw controls, while FC held a 31-24 edge in ground balls.

Randolph (3-5) will return to action on Saturday with a league game with the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. at 1 p.m.
