Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Maroons

SALEM, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team ended its four-game road trip on Saturday as the WildCats took on Roanoke in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. The Maroons had the upper hand on the WildCats as they won 25-3.

Randolph won the opening draw control and got right down to business. Nicole Dorton (Alexandria, Va./J.E.B. Stuart) scored 36 seconds into the half to give the WildCats a 1-0 lead.

The 'Cats defense came up big early on as Chrissy Shackleford (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) stopped four Roanoke shots in two minutes of game time. The Maroons finally got one through at 26:41 to knot the contest at 1-1.

Randolph kept Roanoke at bay until 23:49 when the Maroons took the lead on a goal by Ellie Armstrong. The Maroons would go on to lead 13-1 until Rachel Buxton (Sterling, Va.) found the back of the net for the WildCats with less than eight minutes remaining in the period. Roanoke would go on to lead 17-2 at the break.

The WildCats got a score from Teagan Stanley (Lusby, Md./Homeschool) with under five minutes remaining in the game.

Shackleford had 15 saves in goal for Randolph. She also picked up two groundballs and caused one turnover. Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) won four draw controls.

Randolph returns to WildCat Stadium to host Hollins on Tuesday. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
