LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team got its first victory of the season on Tuesday night as they defeated Sweet Briar 14-2. The WildCats' record now stands at 1-3 while the Vixens fall to 0-7.
The WildCats got out to a 7-0 lead in the first half before the Vixens got on the scoreboard with just over a minute left until halftime. Sweet Briar scored the first goal of the second half to close to 8-2 but the 'Cats went on a 6-0 run to close out the game.
Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) scored four times to lead Randolph and assisted on a fifth goal. Nicole Dorton (Alexandria, Va./J.E.B. Stuart) and Hannah Bradley (Wye Mills, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) tallied three scores. Tyrah Cobb-Davis (Laurel, Md./St Vincent Palotti) and Dana Cavallo (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) accounted for two goals apiece.
Perry won six draw controls with Bradley taking three. Dorton caused a team-high four turnovers.
Chrissy Shackleford (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) turned away seven Vixen shots in goal. She picked up four groundballs and caused two turnovers.
Randolph led in groundball pickups 13-4. Shots were in the WildCats' favor 30-13.
The WildCats are home again this Saturday as they host Salem. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m. following the men's game.
