FERRUM, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team began its 2017 season on the road Friday night with a non-conference tilt against Ferrum College. The Panthers scored just over 20 minutes into the first period and the goal held up as the hosts by the final score of 1-0.

The WildCats registered three shots on goal in the first half but could not cash in on the attempts. Alex Mattson scored for the Panthers at 20:03 on an assist from Catelyn Gamble to put Ferrum ahead.

The Panthers defense kept the WildCats off the board in the second half. Randolph goalkeeper Quinn-Lynn Bates (Culpepper, Va./Culpeper County) was able to keep her team in the contest with several key saves. She would finish with seven stops overall on the night.

Ferrum led in total shots on the evening 12-3. It also led 5-0 in corner kicks.

Randolph is idle until Tuesday when it travels to Raleigh, N.C. to take on William Peace. Game time will be at 6:00 p.m.
