Women’s Tennis Competes at ITA Regional Tournament

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Members of the Randolph College women's tennis team competed in the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament, held on the campus of the University of Mary Washington on Saturday.

In singles action, Aubrey Hawn (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) won her Round of 16 in the Blue 2 division, 6-0, 6-2 before falling to Sara Fioretti of Mary Washington, 6-4, 7-6 (5) in the quarterfinal round. Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 Middle School) competed in the championship bracket, winning her first round, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, but fell in the Round of 16, 6-1, 6-2.

Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) competed in the Blue 3 Singles division, falling to her opponent, 6-3, 6-3 while Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) fell in the Blue 4 draw, 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles play, the tandem of Sarfo and Schmitz earned a bye into the quarterfinals of the B3 draw but ultimately fell to their opponents, 8-4 while Hawn and Jin fell, 8-6, in the Round of 16 in the championship bracket.

The ITA Regional Tournament continues tomorrow at 8 a.m.
