Women’s Tennis Comes Back to Defeat Southern Virginia 5-4

BUENA VISTA, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team faced Southern Virginia on the road on Wednesday afternoon. The WIldCats took four singles matches on their way to a 5-4 victory over the Knights.

Randolph trailed 2-1 at the completion of doubles competition. The pair of Lauren Appel (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Samantha Dickerson (Brookneal, Va./William Campbell) won easily at third doubles 8-0 over the duo of Laura Elko and Mercedes Mattey.

In the singles portion of the match, Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 Middle School) was a winner at first singles with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Elizabeth Fuchs. Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) was able to fend off Alex Arbuckle in third flight with a 7-5, 7-6 win. Appel and Dickerson got victories at fifth and sixth singles.

The women conclude their fall season on Saturday with a match at Catholic. Start time is at 1:00 p.m.
