Women’s Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision to Centre

LYNCHBURG, Va.Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/Middle School No. 8) won the lone game for the Randolph College women's tennis team as the WildCats fell to visiting Centre College on Tuesday afternoon. Originally scheduled for 3 p.m. on the Randolph Tennis Courts, the match was moved inside to the Crosswhite Fitness Center Club.

Jin defeated Abigail Kent in 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 at first flight singles to earn the only win for Randolph as the Colonels swept doubles play and grabbed three victories in singles action.

Jin paired up with Aubrey Hawn (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) in flight one doubles and ultimately fell to their opponents, 6-3, while Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) and Lauren Appel (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) also dropped a 6-3 decision in flight two. The Colonels' Emma Ramsey and Kenny snow would blank Sarah Mueller (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) 6-0 in flight three for the sweep.

In flight two singles, Schmitz dropped a 6-1, 6-3 while Hawn fell in flight three, 6-3, 6-0. Centre added one final win in flight four as Emily Zelichenok defeated Appel, 6-3, 6-0.

The WildCats drop to 2-3 on the season and will host Sweet Briar College on Friday, March 23 at 3:30 p.m. on the Randolph Tennis Courts.
