Women’s Tennis Drops 6-3 Decision to Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's tennis team saw its winning streak snapped as the WildCats fell to visiting Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Lynchburg College on Wednesday afternoon.

The tandem of Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) and Lauren Appel (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) took the only doubles win for Randolph, winning the No. 2 spot with a score of 8-2.

Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 Middle School) and Aubrey Hawn (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) fought a hard battle at No. 1 doubles but ultimately fell, 8-5. The Hornets clinched their second doubles win as Sarah Mueller (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) fell at the No. 3 spot, 8-2.

At No. 2 singles, Schmitz made a comeback in her second set to ultimately win, 6-1, 7-6, while Hawn took down her opponent, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 to give Randolph its third win of the day.

The WildCats fall to 8-4, 5-3 ODAC and are back on their home court on Saturday, April 14 when they host Randolph-Macon College at 1 p.m.
