LYNCHBURG, Va. – Despite splitting wins in singles, the Randolph College women's tennis team ultimately fell to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon.
The tandem of Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 Middle School) and Aubrey Hawn (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) fought a hard battle at No. 1 doubles but were the ultimate victors as the pair took home an 8-5 triumph. However, the YellowJackets would end up clinching the No. 2 and No. 3 matches for a 2-1 lead.
Although Jin managed to win the first set at No. 1 singles, she dropped the second set and was forced to play a third that would end in a super tie-breaker in Jin's favor. Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) clinched her first set at No. 2 singles with an easy 6-3 victory but was forced into a tie-breaker that she would go to win.
With the match at a 2-all score, Hawn would give the WildCats a 3-2 advantage as she took No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3. However, the YellowJackets would capture wins at flights four, five and six to clinch the overall victory.
The WildCats drop to 8-5, 5-4 ODAC and will be back at home on Friday, April 20 when they host Hollins University at 3 p.m.
