Women’s Tennis Falls to Southern Virginia, 6-3

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's tennis dropped a 6-3 decision visiting Southern Virginia University on Saturday afternoon at the Randolph Tennis Courts.

The tandem of Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) and Sarah Mueller (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) won the lone doubles match for the WildCats, defeating Morgan Blount and Alyssa Sewell, 8-2, in No. 2 doubles. Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) and Jordon Kirkpatrick (Lutz, Fla./Sunlake) dropped a heartbreaker No. 3 doubles match, 8-7 (7-3) to Audrey McBride and Leeanne Aldrich while Savana Mata (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos) and Lauren Appel (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) dropped their No. 1 doubles match, 8-1, to Rachel Neeleman and Lauren Morrison.

In singles play, Schmitz and Opoku-Sarfo notched the only wins for Randolph as Schmitz defeated her opponent, 6-1, 7-5 in the No. 1 spot while Opoku-Sarfo won the No. 4 singles match 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

The WildCats will close out their fall season tomorrow when they travel to Averett University for a 1 p.m. match.
