Each week, Randolph Athletics showcases a question and answer with the WildCat of the Week. This week it is a junior from the women's tennis team Ashley Schmitz.
Schmitz won both of her singles and doubles matches on the week to help Randolph pick up 5-4 victories over Roanoke and Virginia Wesleyan. Playing at second singles this season, she is 11-2 and paired with teammate Keyu Jin is 7-1 at first doubles.
How long have you been playing tennis?
I have been playing tennis for almost nine years now
In doubles play, you are 7-1 paired up with Keyu. Did the both of you have the right chemistry together from the beginning?
Keyu and I have a lot of fun playing doubles together! Our styles of play work really well together, so playing together has felt natural from the start.
What goals do you have for yourself and the team coming into the final weeks of the regular season?
Our team goals, as well as my personal goals, for the rest of the regular season is to definitely continue playing hard for our last three matches, but most importantly to have fun while doing so!
Do you have any plans yet for the summer?
As of right now, I am still figuring out my definite summer plans, but they will most likely include some coaching.
