LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College women's tennis team closed out its regular season with a 5-0 win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Shenandoah University on Friday afternoon at the Crosswhite Athletic Club.
Originally scheduled at Shenandoah, the match was moved to the Crosswhite Athletic Club due to the inclement weather forecasted for this weekend and was played to decision.
The tandem of Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No. 8 Middle School) and Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles while Sarah Mueller (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and Savana Mata (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos) secured an 8-3 win at No. 2. The WildCats completed the sweep as Lauren Appel (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Ranita Opoku-Sarfo (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) handily won in the No. 3 spot, 8-0.
Randolph clinched the match as Jin took a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles while Schmitz won in the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-2.
The WildCats closes out their regular season 11-7, 9-3 ODAC and now wait to see if they will be one of the teams to host a quarterfinal match of the ODAC Tournament.
