FOREST, Va.- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference on Tuesday announced its All-Conference Teams in Women's Tennis. Junior Ashley Schmitz (Keswick, Va./Homeschool) was named to the First Team in second singles and fellow junior Keyu Jin (Kunming, China/No 8 School) was tabbed to the Second Team in first singles. Both players were selected to the Second Team at first doubles.
This is Schmitz's third straight All-Conference selection but first First Team honor after earning Second Team honors at fourth singles and second singles the last two years. It is Jin's third straight second team accolade.
Schmitz was 14-3 playing her first full season at the second singles spot and was 10-2 in conference play. She had a nine-match winning streak during the season with two losses coming in super-tiebreakers. Schmitz earned ODAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors on April 8 as she won both of her singles and doubles match helping Randolph to a 2-0 week.
Jin went 15-2 at first singles and 10-2 in the ODAC. Her 15 victories were a career-high. After dropping her first match of the season in February, Jin ripped off 12 straight wins before falling to ODAC Player of the Year Christina Harris from Lynchburg. She was named the ODAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week on April 1 as she helped the WildCats to a 2-0 week.
In their first season as doubles partners, Jin and Schmitz didn't pair up until the sixth match of the season and had at one point a six-match win streak going with two losses by an 8-7 score. The duo finished 2019 10-3 overall and 8-2 in the ODAC.
