Berryman Breaks Own Record in Shot as WITF Competes at LU

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's indoor track and field team competed at the Liberty Kickoff during Friday and Saturday.

The throwers began things for the WildCats on Friday evening and were the only members of the team to compete.  Teliya Stevenson posted the best distance for the team at 33'2.5" in the weight throw.  Kayla Wilhelm was right behind, only one-half inch behind.

On Saturday, the throwers continued to shine, with Trevanna Berryman breaking her own school record in the shot put.   She heaved a throw 38'7", which gave her eighth out of 63.  It improved on her ODAC leading distance, and she fell to only six DI and one DII athletes.  The next closest DIII thrower was over six feet and 21 places behind.

Marisa Quarti had a very good day, running in the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash.  She set a season best in the hurdles, going 9.93, which helped her move up the ODAC leaderboards.  She also improved on her 200-meter time.  Jalil Penn and Jordan Sheets joined her in the 200, and followed her lead.  Both set season PRs in the event.

Sheets also ran in the 400-meter race.  She nearly made the ODAC qualifying mark, but set another best.

Randolph will be back in action in two weeks.  The team will travel to Christopher Newport University for the Vince Brown Invitational.  The meet on February 4 begins at 8 a.m.
