Track and Field Heads to CNU on Saturday
LYNCHBURG, VA – After setting six school records at the opening meet of this semester, the Randolph College track and field teams will be back in action this Saturday, traveling to Christopher Newport University for the Vince Brown Invitational.
This Saturday should prove to be a great weekend for the WildCats. The track itself at CNU is always one of the fastest in the region. In addition, there will be 22 other college teams as well as several club teams. Almost half are in a Division higher than DIII, but three other members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) will be in attendance. It should provide for a great atmosphere.
The WildCats performed very well at the Liberty University Kick-Off two weeks ago. Anthony Quinn led the team, setting two records, with them coming in the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash. However, due to two oddities with the LU meet, neither time was excepted as is for nationals. It is required to have time in between the prelims and the finals for a run to count, however Liberty had the finals in the 60-meter hurdles immediately after the prelims, erasing Quinn's stellar 8.30 time on the national stage. However, there is still plenty of time to regain that mark. Also, his 200 time of 22.56 was adjusted due to the banked track, but he is still currently third in the ODAC even with the adjusted time.
The women also had a great day, with Trevanna Berryman breaking her own record in the shot put. She posted a heave of 38'7" which is over a foot better than the next closest thrower in the ODAC. What is even more impressive is that her and Quinn were the only DIII people to qualify for their respective finals.
The Captains will provide live stats at http://static.cnusports.com/custompages/track/20170204/index.htm. For all of the information on the meet, including heat sheets and schedule, go to http://tfxc.groups.cnu.edu/meet-info/college-indoor-meets.
