Randolph Sets Numerous PRs at Vince Brown

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Randolph College women's track and field team competed at the Vince Brown Invitational, hosted by Christopher Newport University, on Saturday.  With a loaded field of some of the best teams in the region, the WildCats did well to set several new PRs.

The throwers had a great day for the 'Cats.  Teliya Stevenson set a new personal best in the shot put, clearing a distance of 35'1.75".  Her teammate, Trevanna Berryman, was right behind, with a heave of 34'4.75".  The two finished in the top-15 of 48 total athletes.  In the weight throw, Kayla Wilhelm led the team with a heave of 32'9.5". Rebecca Webb broke her previous best in the event, throwing it almost 10 feet further than her previous top mark.

In the 60-meter dash, Jordan Sheets and Jalil Penn both set new personal records, with Sheets edging her teammate by nine one-hundredths of a second.  Sheets continued her great day setting a new record in the 200-meter dash.  She stopped the clock in 28.98 and nearly qualified for the ODAC meet.  Penn improved her time from the previous meet as well in the 200.

Michaela Saunders added another personal best, with hers coming in the 800-meter race.  Saunders stopped the clock in 2:47.75.

The WildCats will compete next week at Roanoke College.  The Finn Picus Invitational will begin Friday and run through Saturday.
