Each week, Randolph Athletics showcases a question and answer with the WildCat of the Week. This week it is a sophomore from the women's track and field team Meghan Chaffins.
Chaffins set two school standards in the long jump and high jump this past Saturday at the WildCat Invitational. She turned in a mark of 4.95m in the long jump, defeating her previous school record length of 4.79 set at the Blue and Silver Challenge before securing a height of 1.52m in the high jump to best her old school record of 1.43m and finish second in the field. Her high jump mark is currently 12th in the South Region.
As a two-sport athlete (Chaffins is also a member of the volleyball team), do you prefer one sport over the other or both equally?
As a dual sport athlete, I receive this question quite often. I prefer both sports equally and that is part of the reason why I chose Randolph College. The opportunity to participate in both of the sports that I love is something that I could not find anywhere else.
Which sport did you first participate in?
I first competed in track and field at a local meet that was open to the public when I was 9 years old.
With the ODAC Championships coming up this weekend, what are you focusing on? Setting ODAC records, qualifying for NCAAs or something else?
This weekend I will be focusing on doing the best that I can while trying to achieve new personal records as well as placing as high as I can in order to score points for my team.
What do you like the most about Randolph?
What I like the most about Randolph is the small and close knit community as well as the close relationships I am able to have with my professors, coaches, and friends.
