WASHINGTON -- The Randolph volleyball team rallied to force a fifth game twice, but couldn't complete the comebacks as the WildCats fell to Methodist University and Misercordia University in five games in action from the Catholic University of American (CUA) Invitational.
Randolph (2-6) dropped the first two games with scores of 25-22 and 25-19 against Methodist. The WildCats won a thrilling game three with a 29-27 win, and forced a final game with a four-set victory at 25-17. The WildCats couldn't finish the rally though, falling in game five 15-9.
Sophomore Grayce Darden (Martinsville, VA/Martinsville) finished with with a team-best 16 kills to go with five blocks, while first-year Celine Rhodes (Barhamsville, VA/Jamestown) had 13 kills, five blocks and five assists. Senior Sam Sublett (Bedford, VA/Staunton River) added five kills and six blocks, and sophomore Jordan Templin (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co.) chalked up 10 kills and two blocks.
In the second contest of the night, the WildCats again forced five games but couldn't overcome Misericordia University. Templin went off in the second match of the day, finishing with a team-best 21 kills. Darden finished the contest with 13 kills. The match scores were 26-24, 25-21, 25-17, 31-29 and 15-11. Templin was named to the All-Tournament team.
Randolph will open Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Tuesday at Roanoke College at 7 p.m.
