ROANOKE, Va. – The Randolph College volleyball team opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on a high note as the WildCats defeated Hollins University 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-19) on Wednesday evening.

Despite a close 6-5 score early on in the first set, the WildCats fired off three straight points to take the lead and would continue this pattern until Randolph pushed a 6-0 run for a 24-13 score. Hollins would have an opportunity to score one final point but the set win would ultimately go to the WildCats as Taylor Webb (Nassawadox, Va./Northampton) floored the final kill.

The second set saw the WildCats jump out to a 7-1 lead, forcing Hollins to call a timeout. After the intermission, Hollins managed to cut the deficit to 10-6 but Randolph continued to put on the pressure, pushing their advantage to 24-9 before sealing the win off of a kill delivered by Lauren Morgan (Bedford, Va./Liberty).

Randolph kicked off the final frame with a 5-0 lead but a 4-3 run by Hollins trimmed the deficit to 8-4 before Hollins rattled off a 4-0 spurt to level the score. For a brief time, the WildCats could not seem to shake Hollins off of their tail but Randolph soon found its groove, widening the gap to 18-11 off of a 4-0 rally. Hollins slowly chipped away at Randolph's lead, roping the score to 24-19 but a kill by Olivia Pullin (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) handed the WildCats the final score and the match victory.

Autumn Troxell (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) led the offensive charge with 11 kills while Webb landed seven kills and dished out 16 assists along with Brooks Gillerlain (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) who also recorded 16 assists and four service aces for the WildCats. Pullin, Shelby Bergum (Terrebonne, Ore./Redmond) and Mackenzie Ambrose (Floyd, Va./Floyd County) each recorded three kills for the night.

Defensively, Kennedy Webb (Nassawadox, Va./Northampton) led the team with 13 digs while Troxell added nine digs of her own.

Randolph improves to 4-6, 1-0 ODAC and returns home on Friday, Sept. 15 to host conference foe Virginia Wesleyan University at 7 p.m.
