Each week, the Randolph College athletics department showcases a question and answer with our WildCat of the Week. This week is senior middle hitter Shelby Bergum.

Bergum helped lead the WildCat Volleyball team to a 3-0 week. She had a season-best .579 hitting percentage in Randolph's 3-1 win over Ferrum and also recorded a season season-best 12 kills. Overall, she accumulated 24 kills and four total blocks with a .413 kill percentage on the week.

Bergum is second on team in total blocks with 26. She is fifth in total kills with 72.

This is your second year with the team, do you see a difference between this year and last year?

The team chemistry is 10 times better this year than last year! The younger players on the time are really stepping up and making us compete in practice for our starting spots. I think that has really helped with our overall improvement!

Do you have a favorite memory of your time with the team?

To be honest it would be the super hot and sweaty practices when we have to stop after ever play and wipe up someone's sweat from the floor. The team is also full of some characters and being able to catch them in action is quite entertaining! The little victories we get as a team will be the memories that stick with me the most.

Why did you choose Randolph?

It's not that great of a story but I wanted to travel to the east coast and I thought there is no better time to do it than during my college years. So I googled and googled some more. I emailed several coaches and had a few get back to me. I wanted to keep playing so I automatically would have a little family once I got here. I went out on a whim and chose Randolph.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to move back to Oregon or Colorado and go to grad school to become a dietitian.
