The Randolph College athletic department each week showcases a question and answer feature with our WildCat of the Week. The 2nd student-athlete selected this year is women's cross country junior Taylor Rama.
Rama was the top finisher for the WildCats at the ODAC Preview Meet last week. Her time of 26:58 set a new PR for 6K races.
You set a career-best in the 6K at the ODAC Preview Meet, how will this help propel you through the rest of the season and the Championship meet which will be on the same course?
My performance this past Friday signals a return of health for me. I have been struggling with anemia, which has really affected my running. Now that my iron levels are finally at normal levels, I can focus on improving my times.
What is your favorite thing about Randolph College?
I like that there is the opportunity to do anything you put your mind to. I've taken some classes at Lynchburg College to supplement my major, I've taken riding lessons, and joined several clubs; I doubt I could have been able to do any of these things and run cross country and track at another school.
How has being a student-athlete affected you?
It has definitely taught me balance. Between work, school, and running, there has always been one that outweighs the others. This year, I've tried to learn from my mistakes and I am managing my time so I can do my best in all three.
What is your favorite thing about Randolph College cross country?
They're my best friends! They've seen me at my worst and still continue to support me. They're the people you hope to know for a lifetime. I mean that to current team members and retired ones.
